Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition Launches on Steam and Microsoft Store

World’s Edge has confirmed that Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition is available now on Steam and the Microsoft Store. The announcement was published on the official Age of Empires site on June 23, 2026, following an earlier reveal that the mobile strategy spin-off would be coming to PC.

The key point here is that this is not a new mainline Age of Empires sequel or a replacement for the existing PC-focused entries. It is the PC edition of Age of Empires Mobile, the kingdom-building and large-scale battle game that launched on Google Play and the Apple App Store in October 2024. According to the official post, the mobile version has already brought in millions of players worldwide, with players building kingdoms, fighting for map control, and taking part in in-game events.

For the PC release, World’s Edge says the game has been optimized specifically for desktop play. The listed PC-focused upgrades include mouse control, full keyboard navigation, a refined UI, and enhanced 4K visuals. That matters because mobile strategy games often struggle when moved to PC without meaningful interface changes. A direct port can feel awkward if menus, battle controls, and progression screens are still designed only for touch input. By calling out mouse, keyboard, and UI improvements, the team is positioning PC Edition as more than just a bigger-screen version of the mobile game.

Crossplay and progression carryover are also central to the announcement. Players who already started on mobile can continue on PC, as long as they link their mobile progress before launching the PC version for the first time. The official instructions are simple: open Age of Empires Mobile on mobile, go to Settings > Account, select Bind Account, and choose a sign-in method. After that, signing in with the same method on PC should carry progress over.

That makes PC Edition especially useful for existing players who want a more comfortable way to manage their empire during longer sessions. Mobile remains convenient for quick check-ins, but PC support can make larger battles, resource planning, alliance management, and event participation easier to handle. It also gives the game a chance to reach strategy fans who prefer mouse and keyboard but may have skipped the mobile release.

The launch also includes a Game Pass-related bonus, though the game itself is available to download for free. Players with an active PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass subscription can unlock a reward bundle by signing in with an Xbox account and playing the PC Edition. The rewards include a Monthly Pass Token, Custom Resource Chest, 10 Universal 60-Minute Speed-Ups, 1,000 Empire Coins, and an exclusive Player Portrait Frame. Eligible players receive the bonus through in-game mail.

What is not confirmed in the official post is equally important. World’s Edge does not describe this PC Edition as a premium paid release, does not list new civilizations, does not announce a separate PC-only campaign, and does not mention Steam Deck verification or console availability. The official framing is focused on PC access, optimized controls, crossplay, cross-progression, and the Game Pass subscriber reward.

For Age of Empires fans, this release expands the franchise’s reach across mobile and PC without disrupting the traditional Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV ecosystem. For players already invested in Age of Empires Mobile, the biggest benefit is flexibility: build and check in on mobile, then move to PC when a larger screen and keyboard controls make more sense.
