DOOM: The Dark Ages Gets Revelations Expansion This July

Bethesda has revealed DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, a new campaign expansion for id Software’s medieval-styled DOOM entry. The DLC is scheduled to launch on July 7, 2026, adding a new chapter to the Slayer’s story with fresh levels, new enemies, more puzzle-focused encounters, and a major new combat tool: the Chain Spear. The announcement was published on Bethesda’s Slayers Club site on June 7, 2026.

The setup for Revelations pushes the Slayer into darker psychological territory. Bethesda describes him as wounded, betrayed, and trapped in a “merciless purgatory,” where he must confront hidden truths and gain new strength with help from a mysterious ally. The expansion’s story also points toward a larger conflict involving an “abomination of the gods,” suggesting that this DLC is not just a combat arena pack, but a narrative continuation of DOOM: The Dark Ages.

The biggest gameplay addition is the Chain Spear, a new weapon designed to expand combat movement and mastery. Bethesda says it adds “new dimensions” to combat by combining power and mobility, which fits well with The Dark Ages’ heavier, more grounded version of the Slayer. Unlike the faster aerial chaos of DOOM Eternal, The Dark Ages leans into shield bashes, brutal pushes, and medieval siege energy. The Chain Spear sounds like it could give players another way to close distance, control enemies, and keep aggression flowing through larger encounters.

The expansion also includes new levels, deeper puzzles, new demons, and additional mysteries. That puzzle note is interesting because DOOM is usually discussed in terms of combat pacing first. If Revelations puts more emphasis on environmental problem-solving between fights, it could help the DLC feel like a fuller campaign chapter rather than a simple set of enemy gauntlets.

Alongside the paid expansion, Bethesda is releasing Ripatorium 3.0 as a free update for all DOOM: The Dark Ages players on July 7. Ripatorium is the game’s customizable arena challenge mode, and the 3.0 update adds deeper customization, improved pass code generation, and personal preset options. Players who own Revelations will also unlock three additional maps, demons, and fully upgraded new weapons for Ripatorium after finishing the DLC story.

Access depends on which version of the game players own. Revelations is included at no extra cost for owners of the DOOM: The Dark Ages Premium Edition or Collector’s Bundle. Base game owners can buy the standalone DLC for $19.99 USD at launch, or upgrade to the Premium Edition for $34.99 USD. DOOM: The Dark Ages is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5, and it is playable through Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. It also supports Xbox Play Anywhere between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC.

What Bethesda has not detailed yet is the exact number of campaign levels, estimated playtime, full demon roster, or whether the DLC adds new difficulty options, cosmetics, or achievements. For now, the confirmed headline is clear: Revelations expands both the story campaign and the replayable Ripatorium ecosystem on the same day.
